Valentine's Day Obsessions

Thursday, February 7, 2013

Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays, not because I am a hopeless romantic, but because I love the colors pink and red!  Here are some Valentine's inspired obsessions.

Cleveland's West Side Market

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

Instagram photos by me

Cleveland's West Side Market is a beloved institution. An institution that celebrated it's 100th birthday in November and also experienced a devastating fire last week.

As a result of the fire, the Market vendors are faced with a myriad of issues. All food and packaging products on the main floor have been lost, and the inventory in the basement coolers is yet to be determined, as no one is permitted to enter this area. While the produce vendors are permitted to open, much of their equipment and products are still in the basement coolers, and without all of the stands up and running, attendance at the Market is at an all-time low.

The West Side Market is one of my Top 10 places in the city. It breaks my heart to think about all of the vendors,  some whose families have been with the market since the beginning, are struggling. If you want to do good for Valentine's Day, or if you are in need of some karmic retribution, consider helping the market's vendors by clicking here.

Quick Post: Instaport

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

Do you Instagram so much that your friends think you need to go to Instagram rehab? Do you take photos of your shoes, food, pets just so you can post them on Instagram? Do you know what filter you will use before you take a photo you will post to Instagram?

Do you ever wish you could download all of your Instagram photos to your computer quickly and simply instead of saving them one by one? Well if so, your wish is now a reality. I was browsing Artifact Uprising's blog while designing my photo book a couple of weeks ago and discovered Instaport. Instaport is a super simple way download all of your Instagram photos by downloading a zip file.  It really is as easy and awesome as it sounds.

Obsessions: Over Dyed Rugs

Friday, January 25, 2013

I got our new rug in the mail today and I'm not sure if I like it (I ended up choosing the first rug in this post). It looks kinda cheap in person and was not in any way shape or form cheap in price. I'm disappointed. Oh well, back to the drawing board.  While searching for the perfect rug for my living room, I noticed a trend that I love. Over dyed gorg!

Overdyed rugs combine classic patterns with washes of deeply saturated color for a fresh and unexpected twist. While many versions — like the vibrant beauties included in ABC Carpet & Home's Color Reform Spectrum Collection — can be quite costly, this trend is also popping up in mass retailers.

Most of the photos of overdyed rugs I have seen feature modern furniture and styling, but I think if I could find the right color of gray or cream this look could be right for my living room.

What do you think? Yay or Nay?

Life According to my iPhone

Did you know that it cold as hell in Ohio?!? The high today is 16, yep, you heard me right 16. BRR! I am supposed to have a skiing lesson tonight, which I might skip, depending on how windy it is to come home and dive right in to my bed and hide under the covers. Yup it's official, I am already sick of winter and dreaming of summer and flip flops. Sigh...Well, guess it's back to reality and the freezing cold.

These are a few recent Instagram photos, make sure to check me out @scarletbegoniavintage.

Meet Artifact Uprising

Monday, January 21, 2013

This weekend I finally got around to making an album with our wedding photos using a site I found out about on Oh Joy. I have waited to do, no more like put off doing this because it seemed like such a daunting task! Our photographer took over 900 photos and weeding through them all has not been high on my "want to do" list. Well anyway, I loved the aesthetic of the book Joy created, so I knew the time had come. Artifact Uprising is an easy to use site that offers design-your-own photo products and photo goods. Their interior printed book pages are made from 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper, which is a plus. Their collection of photo goods includes: hardcover photo books, softcover photo books, photo books with Instagram-friendly designs, and wooden calendars. I also like that you can choose from a variety of fabrics and dust jacket covers, including the a partial dust jacket cover.

I have to say, overall my experience was pretty good. The only mishap I had was forgetting to hit the save button after I uploaded 919 photos (which took all day) because I didn't realize they didn't automatically save.  Once the photos uploaded again I had a bit of trouble with their software. I emailed the company directly and got a quick response that unfortunately didn't resolve my issue. The response came on a Friday, so I didn't hear anything else all weekend. Luckily, I am persistent and re-uploaded the photos one more time and finally the software worked correctly. They are a relatively new company, so I am chalking it up to bugs they are still working out.

Overall, I am happy with my experience and you really can't beat the price, $139.00 for 150 pages. Also, I will make sure to post photos when my book arrives.
