What I'm Reading: Beekman 1802 Heirloom Cookbook

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

I'm keeping with the farm theme from this post and reading (well...soon to be cooking with) the Beekman 1802 Heirloom Cookbook. There are a ton of beautiful photos and wonderful looking recipes that I can't wait to try!

I hope that one day I will turn our home back in to the farm it once was, so I am mildly obsessed with the Beekman Boy's story. Josh Kilmer and Dr. Brent Ridge are former Manhattanites who purchased the Beekman mansion and threw themselves head first into farm living.  I am also mildly obsessed with the Beekman Mansion because it is fabulous! Check out their farm all decorated for the holidays courtesy of Country Living.

I am absolutely in love with the green chair!!

Color Inspiration

Saturday, February 25, 2012

I love this season's color trend! Bright, punchy colors are everywhere from clothes to accessories to housewares and I can't help but be happy and crave warmer weather.  I actually just bought the Essie shade below and I can't wait to try it out. Oh...and I really want to buy a pair of bright blue or green pants, but I'm kind of nervous I won't be able to pull it off. How amazing are these???

What are some of your favorite trends this season? Are you a fan of color? If you aren't what pops of color would you incorporate into your wardrobe/home?

Quick Post: Alt Channel

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

When I was dreaming up lofty goals for the blog this year (i.e growing my brand, transistioning to more of a lifestyle blog, more personal posts, etc.) I was a little overwhelmed. I am really pretty new to the world of blogs, I have been blogging for less than a year, so I wasn't really sure where to start or who to turn to. So when I started seeing some really encouraging posts recently about Altitute Design Summit recently I was pretty excited. Unfortunately for me, the conference was happening about the time I found out about it, so there was no way I was going to be able to attend (you can bet your you know what I am going to try to attend next year...who is with me???!!).  But, luckily for me the creative bloggers behind the conference have started The Alt Channel where they offer weekly classes on blogging!

Last week I attended my first class, "Getting Started with Advertising for Bloggers" with Liz Stanley from Say Yes to Hoboken and it was super informative and really quite amazing. The class was chocked full of tips that Liz has put together from the perspective of what she would have liked someone to tell her when she was first starting out on her blog. I would highly recommend signing up for a class if you can, I know I plan on signing up for more. Plus, the price is really pretty reasonable at $15.00 a class!

If you sign up for a class...let me know how it goes! Also, is anyone interested in going to the conference next year? I will need a roomie!

A Change is in the Air

Monday, February 20, 2012

Today is an exciting day here at Scarlet Begonia Vintage! As you can see the look of my blog is completely different! I am super excited that I have brought my vision to light with the help of a wonderful designer named Tabitha Emma. I have been talking a lot about exciting changes and goals I have for this blog and I think a new design is exactly what I needed to put me on the right path.

Meet The Vintage Parlor

Sunday, February 19, 2012

This week I would like to introduce you to one of my favorite Etsy shops ever, The Vintage Parlor. The Vintage Parlor is an old fashioned collection of beautifully decayed salvaged treasures, rustic antiques, and upcycled goods. Founded by merchandiser Anna Rowland, a lifelong thrift store hunter and lover of all things old. With a background in design and photography, Anna shares her collection of vintage treasures, carefully selected by hand and sent to charming new owners around the world.

The online shop, based out of Santa Barbara, California, includes old fashioned, beautifully decayed, salvaged goods. In addition to her finds, Anna creates upcycled home decor and handmade jewelry.

Each item at The Vintage Parlor has traveled far and wide, through big cities and small towns, searching for new love and life. Anna loves to imagine each pieces lifespan, where it has been and all it has seen. Who loved it and who last discarded it. Then she picks it up and imagines where it is going next.

Here are some of my favorites...

New Blog Design

Friday, February 17, 2012

As I posted a while ago Scarlet Begonia Vintage is going through some pretty big changes right now. I am soon to be launching a new look and I wanted to give you guys a sneak peek! Below is a preview of the new design and I love the direction it is going! Tabitha Emma is doing a fabulous job!

What do you guys think???

I also have been busy taking photos of myself for the new blog as well. When Tabitha asked me for a photo for the new blog design last week I realized I didn't have many photos of myself alone and certainly none that were recent. So I enlisted the help of my (very reluctant) husband and here are some of the photos we took.

Playing with some filters.

I like these photos but they might be a little senior picture-esque...

One of my favorites...

I wanted to get some head shots too.

By the time we got to this outfit, my husband was pretty much over helping me (as you can see by the crooked belt). Needless to say we didn't get any great shots in the green dress.

I think the photo shoot went pretty well overall. This is the first time I have tried to get any self portraits and it was not as easy as I thought. I think I am pretty photogenic, but it is really hard when you have to start posing! Oh, and do not ask me for any other facial expressions besides a smile...all of them came out silly! I definitely need more practice, but I am learning more and more about my new camera and I am taking a photoshop class as we speak...so maybe one day I will look back on this shoot and laugh at what an amateur I was. Everyone has to start somewhere, right?!

February Sponsor Spotlight

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

I am happy to introduce you to a fabulous bunch of ladies this month. I have to say that it has been the best month for collaboration on my blog so far! I really am excited to continue collaborating with these lovely ladies and look forward to meeting new sponsors in months to come. Thank you to all who have guest posted or allowed me to guest post on your blog this month.

Meet Averie

My name is Averie-- I am twenty-four years old and currently reside in the beautiful city of Austin, TX. I am a biology nerd, a photographer, a thrifter, a dabbler in all things crafty, a home-brewer, and a camp-aholic. I love cooking and eating and reading and writing, and laughing as much as possible. My personal philosophy is that life is for living, and I am here to experience as much of this world as I can in the short time that I am here. Displacing Space is my place to document and share those experiences.

Let's talk about self love for a change. What do you do to de-stress or spoil yourself?
When I am feeling stressed out, my go-to mood lifter would have to be hiking or really any other activity outdoors where there are not many people around. I cherish my alone time, and surrounding myself with nature allows me to re-center and remember what life is all about. As far as spoiling myself goes, I am a sucker for massages and pedicures. :-P
AND 20% off anything in my store for your readers with code: SCARLETBEGONIA

Meet Amanda

My name is Amanda, I'm a stay at home mom to two wild little girls, Evelyn & Flora. Motherhood has taught me that childhood is a time of curiosity and fun. Jumping on the bed, coloring on the walls and dancing around to one's own beat is the energy and philosophy behind Folklure.  I spend my days dancing with my girls, browsing antique shops, knitting and blogging about motherhood and the goodies I find along the way.

Let's talk about self love for a change. What do you do to de-stress or spoil yourself?
Nothing cures high stress levels for me like knitting to {very} loud music. I sing along, stomp my feet, whatever it takes to shake the stress off.

Meet Stacie

Hello lovelies I'm Stacie over at Curious Damsel an artsy lifestyle blog. I like to tell tales of my adventures, show you all the pretty things I find and occasionally I'll through in some of my own work just to spice things up. I am currently living in limbo in the UK until my move to Australia on 16th February yay!! Pop over and take a peek, there will soon be lots of sunny posts!

Let's talk about self love for a change. What do you do to de-stress or spoil yourself?
Let me see what do I do to de-stress and spoil myself… I like to sit back, soak up lots of sunshine with a drink of apple juice in one hand a copy of Frankie in my other hand {my favourite magazine} I also really enjoy walking around museums and taking loads of pictures that I can edit later!

Guest Post// Obsessions by Folklure

Saturday, February 11, 2012

Hello! This is Amanda of the Folklure blog and I am so stoked to be here today on Scarlet Begonia to share my Weekly Obsession with y'all. This week I am crazy about BRAIDS. After many failed attempts to braid my own hair, I turned to other ways to indulge my admiration for these twisted beauties: fashion, art, and food.

1/2/3/4/5/6

I hope you enjoyed these Weekly Obsession picks and be sure to visit me over at the Folklure blog!

I just want to thank Amanda for guest posting on Scarlet Begonia Vintage! I love her picks for the week and she has a wonderful blog, so make sure you stop to check it out.

Quick Post: Domino Magazine Returns

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

I don't know about you, but when Domino magazine printed it's last issue back in 2009 my sister and I were really, really sad.  We had come to love this magazine for helping us decorate our first "big girl" apartments after college and now where were we to turn to for decorating advice? We both purchased the fabulous Domino: The Book of Decorating, and we loved it, but we couldn't help but want our monthly installments back. Well, I know we weren't the only decorating junkies that felt this way because Conde Nast announced yesterday that Domino is back! The special issue magazine due out in April will be a "Quick Fixes" edition and is likely to be published twice a year for newsstands only. Super exciting...huh!

Hope you all have a great day! XOXO
